Jose Tomas conquers Madrid (Again)!
Posted on: June 16, 7:52 AM by gcampos

Were you able to listen to the internet radio broadcast of Jose Tomas in Las Ventas yesterday? no? Well then u missed another death defying performance from the best, yes the best bullfighter in the world.

Not only cut 3 ears in Las Ventas yesterday but Jose Tomas was also gored 3 times, and even with that was able to complete the faena and cut two ears. It was just crazy, every one was going wild even the radio announcers.

As of now there is a lot of talk about Jose Tomas, and what he gives to toreo, and what toreo gives to him. Some talk about how crazy he is, other on how bold. And you have to wonder about that, as much as I have seen his faenas (1 live many on video), he is the only bullfighter who will do whatever it takes to cut an ear. Other bullfighters may say that but, do not complete their faenas cause they dont want to "risk an injury".

How much of a risk would you take? Jose Tomas takes that risk to a different level.

See for yourself, checkout some video clips:

Tijuana Bullfight season suspended?
Posted on: June 9, 10:08 AM by gcampos

There was a report in the newspaper La Frontera this past weekend from radio personality and bullfight historian Giraldes, who said that the bullfight season has been temporarily suspended.

It was said in a telephone interview with the empresario and owner of the bullring Pepe Lopez Hurtado, that the season was suspended because of problems with "El Zotoluco".

The empresario says that Zotoluco was supposed to open the season but retracted because he was attending the Feria de San Isidro in Madrid in person as a fan. Lopez Hurtado also said that "He asked for an amount of money that could not be given; he doesnt bring people to the bullring in relation to what he is asking for. Last year the one bullfighter we lost money on, was him".

So until they figure out what to do, it looks like July 6 bullfight has been canceled.

Pop Star goes nude for bullfights!
Posted on: June 3, 8:46 AM by gcampos

This article popped up a couple days ago, in the spanish press and now the english press is talking about it....

Eighties Pop Star Alaska goes nude for an anti-bullfight campaign. She agreed to a poster campaign to support the anti-bullfight movement by the Animanaturalis association.

Alaska goes on to say, "I don't think bullfighting is at all good, so I had to do something. And my way of doing things is to not keep quiet and say what I think to anyone that may want to listen. We have no right to harm anyone, be it a child, a dog or a bull," said the star in a press statement.

The poster depicts alaska on all fours, with banderillas on her back and blood streaming from them. The poster is to be displayed next Monday.

Article from ThinkSpain.com
If still available, here is link to image of the pop star and the poster.

Ok here's my issue with this article:

It states: "Since the city of Barcelona declared itself against bullfighting in April 2004, dozens of other towns across the country have followed suit.

What they don't state is that on June 17 2007 the city of Barcelona once again became a bullfight town, with the return of Jose Tomas. And has had more bullfights, AND will continue to have more in the coming years.

It also states: The most recent Gallup public opinion poll (2006) reveals that 82% of 15-24 year old Spaniards have absolutely no interest whatsoever in the national fiesta.

Which is probably correct, but 15 year olds are never interested in anything but the revolution! Most of the anti-bullfight demonstrators are kids in black outfits, you know the black tight jeans, black shoes, black shirts with CHE! on the front, jet black hair, what else, um, black eyeliner, and with a bandana on their arm, fist in the air, with nothing but a voice, of which they cant do at home so they join some group in protest.

funny, just funny

El Payo in Las Ventas, the great revelation of the fair....
Posted on: May 19, 10:15 PM by gcampos

The mexican novillero Octavio García "El Payo" has been the talk of the town, so to speak, after a victorious day in Las Ventas during the novillada celebrated this evening.

Despite a goring from his second bull of the afternoon, in the left leg (calf muscle) of 15cm, he almost went out of the plaza on shoulders had he not missed with the sword work.

Though, he still had a victorious afternoon and thats all that counts.

enhorabuena, and get well soon...

Javier Valverde gored by Muira bull
Posted on: May 19, 7:25 AM by gcampos

(Sunday, May 18 2008)

The bullfighter Javier Valverde was gored in the right leg during his attempt of dispatching his first Miura bull in the plaza of Estepona (Malaga).

The medical report issued by the bullring doctors says "the injury was caused by the horn of the bull in the backside of the right leg with three trajectories of 18, 20 and 25 cm. He was transported to the Hospital Costa del Sol de Marbella (Málaga)".

(Last night)
The night went well without any fever, but he did have a lot of pain, and had to be given morphine to subside the pain to the big goring. His brother Cucho, says that he is favoring well, but that he is in a lot of pain, and the injury is draining a lot, and thats good to have, being that big of an injury. He is to be re-examined on Tuesday and if doing good they could transfer his to a hospital in Salamanca where he will stay a five or six days to recover.

Valverde, who is found to be cheerful despite the pain, says that he hopes to return to the bullfight for his appearance in San Isidro on the 30th of this month.
