Fermin Spinola cuts only ear in La Mexico (Feb15)
Posted on: February 15, 6:05 PM by gcampos
It's almost over, and it looks like Fermin Spinola will be the victor, cutting an ear, in todays bullfight in Plaza Mexico. Fernando Ochoa has asked for another bull (his third) and will be performing in just a little while, pending this last outcome Fermin is on top. Miguel Angel Perera probably had the worst lot of the afternoon, two stubborn bulls, and was given one aviso on each bull.
It was a good day for faenas, but a bad day for swordwork.

Efren Acosta recieved Manolo Mejia's dedication
Posted on: January 26, 3:18 PM by gcampos
The retired picador who last year was involved in a serious car accident, that resulted in the amputation of his left arm, was present at Sundays bullfight, and had a bull dedicated to him by Manolo Mejia.
As Manolo walked to the burladero, he mentioned someone to come down, and that someone was El Loco, who as the public recognized him, gave him a standing ovation.
In an article posted this morning from ovaciones.com, he goes on to say that, "I feel real good, the fiesta (bullfights) is my life. I am enjoying the attention the public has given me today. I thank everyone who called me when I suffered my accident. Now Thanks to God I am alive." He retired last year as a picador, and he is now trying to adjust to normal activities, he says "I work like any other person, and am continuing to go to therapy. I miss all of this, and envy my friends."
Efren says that he misses the times when he would mount a horse and pic bulls until he was whistled or booed. Now he is working in the Union Americana, where he says that he has found a spectacle that he enjoys, like bullfighting. He also says "There is nothing in the United States that can substitute the bulls."

The public wouldn't stop in their petition for the tail, the Spaniard deserved it, and was carried out of the bullring on the shoulders of a Mexican, with ears and tail.
The 120th tail awarded in La Mexico, was given to Miguel Angel Perera, on a gift bull (toro de regalo), his third of the afternoon.
The last Spaniard to be awarded a tail was the rejoneador Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza in 2006, the first was Silverio Perez in 1946 with the bull ‘Barba Azul', from the ranch of Torrecillas, in an afternoon in which Manolete was the other bullfighter.
The first Spaniard to be awarded a tail was Manolete on Dec 11 1946, with the bull Manzanito, from Pastejé.
Perera is now a part of history in the 63 years since Plaza Mexico was built.

Miguel Angel Perera is back and will fly out today from Spain toward Latin America, for a tour of duty with the bulls.
He begins his tour this Friday in Venezuela at the Feria de San Cristobal alongside Leonardo Benitez and El Juli. Then he is to be in Mexico City on Sunday the 25th of Jan, for a confirmation of his Alternativa, alongside Manolo Mejia as his padrino (godfather) and Jose Mauricio as his testigo (witness), with bulls from Barralva. He then travels back to Medellin, Colombia for a corrida on the 31st of Jan with Diego Gonzalez, and Morante de la Puebla. Then he travels back to Mexico City to be part of the 63rd Anniversary cartel in La Mexico.
